Northern Alaska Tour Company is pleased to once again offer our Barrow Expedition for the summer season.  Visitors are invited to join us for this small group experience to the northernmost Inupiat community.

The Barrow Expedition differs from the Barrow Adventure series by type of aircraft utilized for air transportation and the number of guests in each departure. Due to limitations of smaller aircraft the Expedition is more prone to weather alterations. 

Expedition Series guests generally travel to and from Barrow in  9-passenger, twin-engine, Piper Chieftains.  This smaller plane travels between 5,000 - 10,000 feet and provides all guests with a window and an aisle seat.  While in Barrow the guests will visit the residential and commercial areas of the community and stop out along the Arctic Ocean coast. The Barrow Expedition is a package operated by Northern Alaska Tour Company.

Adventure Series guests travel to and from Barrow in a 737 jet operated by Alaska Airlines. On any given day the plane can be configured to accommodate up to 111 passengers.  Once in Barrow guests will have a similar tour experience as the expedition guests in visiting the residential and commercial areas of Barrow. The Adventure Series is an Alaska Airlines Vacation Package and Northern Alaska Tour Company is just one of many agents who sell this tour experience. 

Barrow Expedition - One Day Tour

A One Day Guided Journey By Air To The Farthest North Eskimo Village.

Tour Summary:

• Fly north across the Arctic Circle to the ancient Inupiat Eskimo village of Barrow.
• Discover firsthand the lifestyles of Alaska's Arctic Coastal peoples with a tour of the village.
• Walk the shores of the Arctic Ocean near the northernmost point on the North American Continent. Bravely dip your toe in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean.
• Depart Barrow on mid-afternoon flight to Fairbanks
• 8:00 am Depart Fairbanks by air.
• 9:15 am Arrive Coldfoot.  Restroom Break, pickup lunch (purchase on own) from Coldfoot Camp Trucker's Cafe.
• 10:15 am Depart Coldfoot.
• 12:15 pm Arrive Barrow.  Village Sightseeing Tour.
• 2:00 pm Depart Barrow for Fairbanks (typically with one rest stop in Coldfoot).
• 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  Arrive Fairbanks.
• Flight times are subject to change.

WEATHER ALTERATIONS AND THE BARROW EXPEDITION

Weather in Alaska's Arctic can and does affect flying conditions.  Weather may require alteration of a portion or all of the scheduled tour itinerary.

Due to the variable conditions on the Arctic Coast, the Barrow Expedition includes a built-in weather alternate.  If current or forecast weather conditions do not allow us to land at Barrow we visit another village, Anaktuvuk Pass.  If weather does not allow us to land at Barrow or Anaktuvuk Pass, we visit the communities of Coldfoot & Wiseman.  The price differentiation follows:

Anaktuvuk Pass --- $529 / person

Coldfoot/Wiseman --- $489 / person

It is very important that guests understand these alternatives and are aware that these are built-in to the experience.  If the above mentioned alternative scenario is not consistent with what one is looking for in a tour experience, the Barrow Expedition is NOT the appropriate choice.

Should weather require an overnight stay, guest is responsible for cost of accommodations. 

A One Day Or Overnight Guided Journey By Air To The Farthest North Eskimo Village.

• Meet the Inupiat Eskimo people while enjoying a cultural program presented by volunteers sharing their culture with visitors (program may feature ceremonial song and dance, traditional games, and demonstration of local native crafts).
• Walk the shores of the Arctic Ocean near the northernmost point on the North American Continent. Bravely dip your toe in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean.
• Depart Barrow on an evening return flight to Fairbanks.  This flight will be via Anchorage on departure beginning June 9 due to schedule changes with Alaska Airlines.  (flights can be arranged from/to Anchorage for an additional fee.)

• RETURN for day tours  BEFORE June 9:  8:22 pm Depart Barrow by air 9:21 pm arrive Fairbanks (11:10 pm arrive Anchorage) - AS 52
• RETURN for day tours BEGINNING June 9: 5:42 pm Depart Barrow by air / 7:27 pm arrive Anchorage (AS 50).  11:25 pm Depart Anchorage by air / 12:17 am arrive Fairbanks.

• Tour Schedule: Tours operate daily from May 15 to September 15, 2013.  (Travel must be completed by September 15.)
• 2013 Starting at Rates: Rates begin at $719.00 / person and subject to change. (From Fairbanks) Rates can and do vary depending on requested date of travel, routing and available categories of seat rates.

CANCELLATION Policy - Due to restrictions of commercial air travel it is very important for guests to understand the Cancellation Policy associated with both Alaska Vacation packages sold by Northern Alaska Tour Company (Barrow Adventure and Nome Adventure).

Barrow Adventure - Overnight Tour

An overnight journey by air to the farthest north Eskimo village.

• Fly north from Fairbanks across the Arctic Circle to the Inupiat Eskimo village of Barrow.
• Partake in a tour of Barrow with Tundra Tours.
• Discover firsthand the lifestyles of Alaska's Arctic Coastal peoples with a tour of the village.
