Fall Aurora Adventures

Alaska's Aurora season stretches from August 21 to April 21.  Overlapping with the end of summer and fall.

 

Northern Alaska Tour Company has a number of adventures for you to combine an Arctic Circle Adventure with the chance to look for the Aurora Borealis as our skies begin to get dark enough to see them.

Arctic Circle FALL Aurora Fly Drive Adventure - 1 pm

A One Day Guided Round Trip Journey By Air and Land Across The Arctic Circle

Tour Summary:

  • Fly from Fairbanks to Coldfoot, north of the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Mountain Range. The flight provides an aerial view of the vast Alaska wilderness.
  • Ground tour south on the Dalton Highway made famous during the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
  • Cross the Arctic Circle and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate.
  • Explore up close the amazing arctic tundra and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface.
  • Experience the mighty Yukon River. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway and learn of the river's storied past.
  • View the remarkable Trans Alaska Pipeline.
  • As the tour approaches Fairbanks you will arrive back in to Joy Alaska, 60 miles north of Fairbanks.  There a new guide will meet you to continue the story of Alaska's Arctic and to help you watch the sky for the aurora.
  • Departs 1:00 pm; returns between 3:30 - 4:30 AM
  • Tour Schedule: 1:00 PM departure August 21 to September 18, 2021

Arctic Circle FALL Aurora Drive Adventure

A Guided Round Trip Winter Journey By Land Across The Arctic Circle. Travel north by day to experience Alaska's Arctic and south by night to scan the northern skies for the amazing aurora.

Tour Summary:

  • Ground tour north from Fairbanks in the personalized comfort of our tour vans. 
  • Learn the story of Alaska's Arctic both while traveling in the van and at the various stops along the way. 
  • View the remarkable Trans Alaska Pipeline. 
  • Travel the rugged Dalton Highway made famous by the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline. 
  • Witness firsthand the remarkable wilderness scenery blanketed in snow. 
  • Traverse the mighty Yukon River. 
  • Cross the Arctic Circle in ceremonious fashion and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. 
  • As the tour approaches Fairbanks you will arrive in to Joy Alaska, 60 miles north of Fairbanks.  There a new guide will meet you to continue the story of Alaska's Arctic and to help you watch the sky for the aurora.
  • Departs 9:45 am; returns between 3:30 - 4:30 AM
  • Tour Schedule: August 21 - September 18, 2021.

Aurora Fly Drive Adventure - NORTHBOUND Ground Tour

A Guided Round Trip Winter Journey By Air and Land Across The Arctic Circle. 

Tour Summary:

  • DAY 1: Depart by ground tour north from Fairbanks to Coldfoot in the personalized comfort of our tour vehicles. 
  • Learn the story of Alaska's Arctic both while traveling in the tour vehicle and at the various stops along the way.        
  • View the remarkable Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
  • Stop along the shores of the mighty Yukon River.
  • Travel the rugged Dalton Highway made famous by the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. 
  • Cross the Arctic Circle in ceremonious fashion and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. 
  • Witness firsthand the remarkable wilderness, which is Alaska's Arctic. 
  • Arrive in Coldfoot Camp in the foothills of the Brooks Mountain Range.
  • In the late evening depart Coldfoot for the historic community of Wiseman, Alaska on the included Arctic Village Aurora tour.
  • Watch for the Aurora Borealis in the solitude of the Brooks Mountain Range while experiencing a unique cabin visit with complimentary hot beverages. 
  • Return to your room at Coldfoot Camp for the remainder of the night.
  • DAY 2: Morning time free to explore or experience an optional dog mushing tour (available Dec 15 - March 31 for additional cost).
  • Late-morning to mid-afternoon, return via air from Coldfoot to Fairbanks.

Homestead Aurora

A Night of Guided Aurora Watching in Joy, Alaska

Tour Summary:

  • Meet your friendly, informative Alaskan guide who is certain to make your experience a memorable one.
  • Ground tour north on the historic Elliott Highway in the personalized comfort of our tour coaches and vans.
  • Cross over Wickersham Dome and enter a remote region where the stars blaze in a pristine winter sky.
  • Arrive in the community of Joy, Alaska and experience the warmth and homestead hospitality of the Arctic Circle Trading Post.
  • Watch the night skies for nature’s greatest light show, the mysterious Aurora Borealis.

  • Available Daily August 21 - September 17, 2021
  • Available Thursday - Tuesday: September 19, 2021- April 21, 2022
  • Departs at 9:00 pm; returns between 3:30 and 4:30 am.
